  13. Another student and I have been trying to interface a 68EC040
  14. processor with a commercial ISA bus frame grabber card.  We are using a
  15. Xilinx FPGA to generate the ISA bus control signals and have had quite a
  16. bit of success with it, but the circuit doesn't work all of the time.
  17. We're hoping someone will be able to help us solve this problem.

  19. The problem we're having has to do with writes to the frame grabber.
  20. When the card is first booted, its microcode needs to be downloaded from
  21. the 68040.  Once the download is done, we read back the microcode from
  22. the grame grabber to verify it, and every time we end up with errors at
  23. the same addresses.  These errors only account for about 5% of the
  24. entire microcode, as we read back the correct values for the other 95%
  25. of the addresses.

  27. These errors always have the same value and occur at the same address.
  28. We have looked at logic traces of the writes to the card for these
  29. addresses, and they look no different from good writes; all the signals
  30. look correct (they look like the signals generated on an XT in which the
  31. frame grabber works correctly), and the correct value is being received
  32. by the card.

  34. We have tested this card in a 486, and it works fine, so the card is
  35. okay.  We must be doing something wrong.  If anyone has any experience
  36. with interfacing the ISA bus and Motorola processors, please get in
  37. touch with us.  We're really at a loss with this thing.
